Gina started CrossFitting less than two months ago. Part of the 5 AM class, she is a sassy little lady who brings a great energy to the gym. She battled injuries due to running, a sport she loves, and was at her wit's end when she came to us. With CrossFit, she's gained strength, nursed her injuries and seen tremendous results in her running. Instead of rehashing her story, I thought I'd share with you two recent emails I've received fron Gina.
EMAIL #1 – 11/26/2009 (Thanksgiving Day)
Just so there is no doubt in your mind, I believe in Cross Fit. When I came to you I was so unbelievably depressed. I thought I would have to give up running and it was tough on me mentally. I had fractured my leg last season and had to have surgery to corrrect the ankle issue that compounded it. Only to battle the same shin splints this season in my other leg leading to a stress reaction well on my way to fracture again.
Fast forward just a mere 5 weeks. My head is clear and I am SO happy. I am building all-over muscles from head to toe. All of my supportive muscles are changing. Hips, quads and hamstrings are getting an incredible overhaul. I have shed 11 pounds which is phenomenal. I am learning to eat completely different than I did my whole life. Italian New Yorker – NO pasta or bread. Runner without carb loading – HOLY Crap is right.
Sunday, I take on my second half marathon this season and with CrossFit I am gaining the tools to be a better athelete over all. I am going more prepared than I was before. I am shooting for a sustained 11.30 pace rate this time and I still believe I will get my the time from 2:49 down under 2:30. 2010 will be the year I do the full marathon successfully.
I am Cross Fit for life and today you need to know I am so thankful that I found Dawn which lead me to you and Rob. Thank you for everyday and never underestimate the impact that you are having in someone's life whether we tell you or not. What you do makes a difference!
All my best,
EMAIL #2 – 11/29/2009 (The day of Gina's half marathon)
I represented CrossFit Vero Beach with my head up high – 13.1 miles in 2:20!!!!!!!!!!!! That is a PR of under 11 minutes a mile. Holy smoke lady. From 2:49 in my October race. That is a full 29 minutes off my time. My husband is staggered at what I did. He can not believe the improvement in such a short time.
What awesome changes in my body. It was an amazing race and I feel incredible. My endurance was strong with no problems, just an egg and a banana for breakfast with whey protein. Mile post 8, I started to feel a little drained so I used an Acel Gel and water, I snapped right back.
Thanks Wendy!. Have a great day and I will see you tomorrow!
We can't take full credit for Gina's success. So much of it is attitude and hard work and she has been 110% committed since Day 1. We know she will continue to smoke her races and complete a marathon!
