Cost vs. Value

Cost vs. Value

Recently, I heard the comment, “CrossFit is expensive, but worth it.” While I like the fact that this person felt we were warranted in the fees we charge; I couldn’t help but clarify that while we may be expensive compared to a traditional gym, what we offer is of great value.

This statement also got me thinking…expensive compared to what? Consider the following:

Aerobics/dance class

$6-8 per class

Park-based fitness

Workouts in a park using bodyweight movement or minimal equipment

$11.25 – $20 per class

Boot Camp

Time-specific (typically 2 months) program designed to jumpstart your fitness. Weight loss is the main goal. Programs vary, but you are usually assigned a team or workout partner.

$10 + per session

Local globo-gym

Members roam aimlessly among a sea of equipment not sure of what to do, then spend a mind-numbing half hour in an oxidative state on the treadmill

$1.00 – $6.45 + per day

CrossFit Vero Beach

Safe, results-based program, led by educated instructors who incorporate Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, running, rowing, kettlebells and more…and you also get free diet counseling

$5.20 – $10 per session

We're not insinuating that any of the above activities aren't valuable (and yes, my descriptions above are totally biased). There is some value in all exercise! If you love to dance, do Zumba; if you love to workout outdoors with friends, do it; if you are looking for a short-term program to get your fitness jump-started, join a boot camp.

But, I think you will agree that, in comparison to what else is out there, CrossFit is a tremendous value.

Choose what is right for you.

Workout of the Day

"Tabata This!"

Tabata Row
Rest 1 minute
Tabata Squat
Rest 1 minute
Tabata Pull-up
Rest 1 minute
Tabata Push-up
Rest 1 minute
Tabata Sit-up

The Tabata interval is 20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest for 8 intervals.
Tabata score is the least number of reps performed in any of the eight intervals. Unit for the row is "calories".

Post Tabata score for each exercise to comments and total for final score.
E.G., 10, 22, 9, 15, 15 = 71

I would attach that “Praise the Lord” picture of me from yesterday’s WOD for my response to this blog. I need to print this out and carry it around with me to show it to people next time someone asks or says to me “What is CF?” or “Why do you pay so much for a gym?” or “I heard CF is scary and not safe” or “Boot camp is so hard but you get the best results” Amen Wendy! You nailed it 🙂
Good WOD this morning. Tabata always has a way of making you fight for every rep and that is how it should be. It also has a way of making you do the centipede across the floor while attempting to do chest to floor push ups for 8 eight rounds.

Yea no doubt I kept falling on my face doing the push ups LOL.. Im sure I wont the only one. But once again one of my favorites! I agree with the post Wendy I dont think you said anything wrong and as a matter of fact the reason I joined Crossfit is because of the lack of motivation I have on my own at a gym with no results! Love it here and thanks for what yall do…Hooah

I think that you should to start charging base on results, fitness, strenght and overall fitness. The benefits and results that you guys are delivering to your members with the Crossfit Program/Gym are really priceless. Don’t compare Corssfit other shi–y gyms, and/or classes. You pay for what you get for.

Great wod today, talking about falling on your face during the push ups, that was me, I’m sure some of you heard me laughing at myself.
I am a self motivating person, I check out workout videos, read all the fitness magazines and know enough of what to do in a regular gym. I do not want to be led around in circles. I like strength building, flexibility, gymnastics and great intensity in workouts and that is what I have found at crossfit, personal qualified instructors who really care if you are keeping your form and pushing yourself in every workout. I am so glad that I am a family member of crossfit Vero Beach, It will be a year next month for me and I know I said this already, but I love it!!!

Debbie, I think I will be back in action this weekend, or on Monday.
I am dying here without any working out.
I think I am going to sign up for this one.. looks awsome!!!

How can it be bad when you get a free viking hat, free beer, and there is a prize for the best viking beard? (though I’m not sure I can win the beard contest)
Hope you are back soon – it was likely pulling teeth to get Don and Jim B to do an endurance row with me last night!

I fully endorse CrossFit not just because philosophy and methodology is sound but because Rob and Wendy are coaches par excellence. I’ve never met two people who are so passionate and knowledgeable about fitness. You cannot place a price on health and fitness. It’s what levels the playing field for all of us. Plus…you know that you are getting your money’s worth!

It’s the happiest check I write each month. It’s not a gym, but a like minded family (something you can’t find anywhere else). It is all lead by two great leaders not only with thier words of incouragment but by there example. (faliurs and PB’s) If you “get” cross fit, you can’t get enough, if you don’t, good there’s more room on the bar for me! Wendy I think you are preaching to the choir. Working late tonight, sorry I am going to miss “Linda” tomrrow.
